    Details

The word cleanse connotes many different perceptions, indeed for some, it just sounds like a good bowel movement. Hopefully however, SpringCleanse2013 will become for you about taking time to heal, change and grow. Some will look to the educational component and for others they will be thinking about lifestyle change and even losing weight. Others will be looking for a transformation to their life through "taking a cleanse." Still others will have all of these considerations to varying degrees. Nevertheless, the best candidates for SpringCleanse2013 are those that are not generally healthy and just want to be better, but those that are sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Those with the most serious health conditions are those that have the most to gain and are often the most willing to change.

SpringCleanse2013 respects your dietary choices and your modifications to the suggested cleanse diet that is vegan, without processed food, with very little sodium (salt) as well as low protein and low fat. For most individuals, such a cleanse diet will best promote the restorative power of the body to optimally heal itself. The goal is to eat about 75% carbohydrates, 10 % protein, and 15% fat. This means that there will be a lot of vegetables. There are also grains (though only "gluten-free" grains) as well as starches (sweet potatoes, etc.) and fruits. Eating a lot of raw vegetables is always cleansing as the phytonutrition acts to broaden and strengthen genetic expression while it provides fiber and appropriate vitamins and minerals. SpringCleanse2013 nonetheless will not be about a raw diet or juicing. It does not involve taking a supplement program or herbs or colonics. These can all have there place, but SpringCleanse2013 is foremost about reducing inflammation and cleansing the tissues of the body by eating well. Eating well is a striking cleanse. And it can become a foundation for living after you give it a trial. It is not sexy or dramatic; it is practical. After you are done you can then live your lifestyle with an appreciation of how to apply what you have learned to create a prosperous life.

SpringCleanse2013 is not all about diet, but also includes the opportunity to explore both yoga and qi gong. These are both eastern traditions and we will be focusing on increasing mobility and gently gain more freedom and strength in our physical body. All abilities will be supported as some will be newer to physical activity or these forms. These activities are not about competition, but about directed intention, a sort of meditation. By concentrating on moving and relaxing more and more "into the actions" the mind-body connection finds more integration and capacity for change.

SpringCleanse2013 provides a new look at lifestyle through diet and exercise, but also offers an educational opportunity. Cooking demonstrations and discussions go hand in hand with lectures on salt, sugar and other nutrition topics. There will be lectures on numerous health topics (see listing) all designed to strengthen your appreciation of healthful living that works. Also included will be workshops where the mind-body connection will be directly tapped through breathing and writing exercises.

This is primarily a weekend afternoon program, but for the supervised cleansers there are also supplemental weeknight classes. On arrival each Saturday and Sunday there will be lunch with discussion of diet, nutrition, and meal preparation easing understanding of food's foundation of healing. Next, we will move out onto the lawn (as weather permits) for qi gong which is a gentle flow of movements from Chinese Medicine to strengthen the electrical or energetic system of the body (we will be focusing on the "Eight Pieces of Brocade"). This will spring the afternoon into lecture/workshops covering diverse topics with plenty of time for Q&A. Fourth, we will spend time on yoga mats gently working to gain more freedom in our muscles, joints and ligaments. This meditative and purposeful activity will lead us into enjoying more healthy and nutritious food together as each day concludes.

During the week you are encouraged to read and complete writing exercises and other homework while staying to the dietary component of the cleanse. Feel free to practice yoga, qigong or any of the activities that you enjoy as well as to explore other curiosities. For the supervised cleansers there are also supplemental classes on weeknights (generally on Tuesday and Wednesday).

SpringCleanse2013 is diverse in scope in order to allow for healing of our whole selves - our mind, body and spirit. Arriving with your own goals and concerns the cleanse acts as a process to setting you forward with an all-around new perspective so that you can heal, change and find greater freedom. Promoting our strengths while accepting and providing support for our limitations promotes lasting change and healing in a way that exercise or diet by itself cannot. When interwoven, either during a cleanse and daily in our life, the result is piece of mind and transformations that indeed seem miraculous.

Set good intention and follow through with good action. With these we can improve any condition and care for all injury.
